Winter 2008

It’s amazing to realize how quickly this year is coming to an end.  Here at the Department of Commerce, we look forward to 2008 with great excitement, but really wonder where 2008 went!  This has been a year of many changes for all of us.  At the Department of Commerce, the new Rural Development Division has been proudly introduced with an announcement from the Governor’s office.  This new division encapsulates the Agriculture Marketing Division, along with the Community Development and Community Services divisions and Offices of Rural Opportunity.  Rural development is a top priority in Kansas, and this will allow the Department of Commerce to continue to build dynamic relationships throughout the state that will elevate the needs for economic development in rural Kansas.

In August 2009, the new Simply Kansas program was unveiled, with its first appearance in front of consumers at the Kansas State Fair.  At this time, there are 56 Kansas companies that have registered to be a part of this exciting new program, and we hope to see many, many more of our fine Kansas companies become members! 

Beginning prior to Thanksgiving and the holiday season, Simply Kansas will be featured on 30 radio stations across the state.  Keep your ears open!
